The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
