The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day in splendour 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
