The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
