The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
