The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
