The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
