The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
God the Almighty always says the truth.
