The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
