The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
