The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
