The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
