The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day resplendent 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
