The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
