The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who belied and turned away, 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
