Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
