The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
