The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
