The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
