The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
