Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
