The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
