The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He verily will be content. 21
