The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But save him who fears 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 but only out of a longing for the countenance of his Sustainer, the All-Highest: 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
