The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
