The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
