The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
