The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He verily will be content. 21
