The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
