The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
