The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
