The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
