The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
