The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
