The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And affirms goodness, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
