The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And accepts the best, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
