The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
