The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But save him who fears 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
