The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
