The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
