The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
