The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
