(Muhammad), remember the morning when you left home to show the believers their position in the battle? God is All-hearing and All-knowing. 121 When two parties from among you had determined that they should show cowardice, and Allah was the guardian of them both, and in Allah should the believers trust. 122 And Allah has already made you victorious at Badr, when you were a weak little force. So fear Allah much [abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden and love Allah much, perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained] that you may be grateful. 123 Remember when you said to the faithful: "Is it not sufficient that your Lord should send for your help three thousand angels from the heavens? 124 Yea! if you remain patient and are on your guard, and they come upon you in a headlong manner, your Lord will assist you with five thousand of the havoc-making angels. 125 and God ordained this only as good news for you so that your hearts might be comforted, help comes only from God, the Powerful, the Wise One, 126 [and] that [through you] He might destroy some of those who were bent on denying the truth, and so abase the others that they would withdraw in utter hopelessness. 127 Not for thee, (but for Allah), is the decision: Whether He turn in mercy to them, or punish them; for they are indeed wrong-doers. 128 Unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. He forgiveth whom He will, and punisheth whom He will. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 129
