The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him – and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19
