Al-Alaq

The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
