The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
