The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
