The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
