The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What is your opinion if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
