The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
