The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
